They say greatness knocks on your door just once in a lifetime, but the Roundabout Revivalists know different – it calls every Christmas Eve and we say 'come on in'.
The 2006 Mission was bolder, braver and bigger than our first expedition. We came. We saw. We brought salvation to the roundabouts of West Sussex. The original trio of Elvis, Otis and the Shaky were joined this year by the fearless Delgrado Brothers and performance artist Mickey 'The Mitch' Mitchum. We band of brothers were united in our cause – say it loud, say it proud – the Roundabout Revivalists were back. And this time we brought more slogans, more banners and more roundabouts to the party.
The first to fall was the notorious 'Windmill Bridge' on Worthing Road in Rustington.
Three banners, all standing tall – proclaiming 'Get Behind Me Santa' – words of encouragement for us all. The next was the trickier 'Golf Centre' roundabout on the mighty A27. With a hint of stealth and a dash of guile, the Roundabout Revivalists evading the 'blue’s and twos' of Her Majesty’s constabulary and planted their fiendishly simple message for drivers to take heed. From the heart of Sussex to the heart of industry – it was onto the ‘Body Shop’ roundabout, the belly button of Littlehampton. Undeterred, the Roundabout Revivalists tamed the beast with nothing more than a few stakes, a bit of cloth, some paint and a hammer. Hear us roar! With one more to go, we were on a roll. We were good and we knew it. It was time for the Roundabout Revivalists to boldly strike where no Roundabout Revivalist had struck before – Wick.
We did not falter and two more glorious banners were erected. Mission accomplished.
We returned to Roundabout Revivalists HQ, only to hear reports from our youth wing. It seems the brethren had been seen in East Preston. ‘Welcome to Bethlehem’ indeed.
